James O'Barr "The Crow" Special Edition

"The Crow" Special Edition!

I've been a huge fan of the Crow since 1994 when the Brandon Lee movie was in theatres. Although I knew back then that the movie was based on James O'Barr's graphic novel and I adored his original art of the Crow, inexplicably I never bought or read the original book until just this month!

It's just one of those baffling things. All these years I had always, always wanted to own the original graphic novel being such a huge fan of the Crow character, but somehow the book kept escaping me, or I avoided it, or something? It just never happened! So in August 2017 I finally decided that owning the original comic has been on my to do list for wayyyy too long to keep calling myself a "huge fan" and therefore I took steps to remedy the situation. Now at long last I've finally bought my very own copy of "The Crow" book! Shown above is the new Special Edition copy of The Crow from 2011 which has some new artwork as well as some restored sections that had been edited out of the original book due to limitations of the printing process back in the 1980's.

The Special Edition book with some of my Crow collectables!

Okay, so I've just finished reading it and am just so amazed at how awesome it is! It's no wonder a movie was made!!! I read the book in one sitting, cover to cover, as I just could not put the book down! Several of the scenes that were included in the movie are there but are presented in a different order which changes things up quite dramatically, and then the story goes off in it's own direction from the movie. So this isn't simply a case of "well I've seen the movie so what do I need the book for"...trust me, you need the book!

In honesty though, I'm not going to be able to offer a review that would do this graphic novel justice, as I simply don't have the words. I'm just floored at how exceptional this book is! The artwork is just beautiful and detailed and, hell, I don't care who knows it, as soon as I got to the end and closed the book shut I just started crying! I couldn't help it!!! Good God, what a sad and violent, and yet beautiful story! The raw emotion, the heartache, the anger. The artwork! Stunning, stunning work! And the romantic love story presented in this book is just so sweet! You really feel for these young love birds and the tragedy of their situation. Like I said, I don't have the words to do this graphic novel justice, but if you are into comics or artwork, or just enjoy a well told and moving story, this is a very special book indeed that is well worth the read. James O'Barr is simply a genius!

Welcome

Welcome to my new Blog of Awesomeness (and Astute Observations) where you, the awesome (and astute) web surfer will soon be able to access a wealth of invaluable information and knowledge about a bunch of stuff that I happen to like. Accompanying the images on this site will be my astute observations about the subject in question. For example, above we have a picture (which I found online) of Brandon Lee in his very awesome role as Eric Draven from The Crow movie, from 1994, of which I am a huge fan. Here we see the Crow standing with his arms open as if to say "Come and get me if you think you can", but the astute minded may also interpret this pose as "welcome to my new Blog of Awesomeness" which in this case is the intent.

And as The Crow is so awesome it is only logical to dedicate the first page of this blog entirely to Mr. Lee and this amazing film, as well as James O'Barr, the truly remarkable artist who created the Crow. Although this is more than enough awesomeness for one blog to feature, I'll be adding additional pages in the future with more awesome stuff. Enjoy!
